Winter BioBlitz 2021

iNaturalist Project Page

24-hour Hunt for Species: Let’s join together while still being apart, to count as many species as we can around Tompkins County and in the Cayuga Lake basin! We did this in the spring, summer, and fall of 2020, and we’re doing it again this winter! From Saturday January 30, 2021, at 10 am to Sunday, January 31, at 10 am, the Cayuga Nature Center is sponsoring a Fall Social Distance BioBlitz.

Join us from wherever you are social distancing and contribute to our understanding of seasonal change in the biosphere of Tompkins & nearby counties. We are calling all nature observers to photograph plants and animals in your neighborhood using the iNaturalist app (available for your smartphone–visit your favorite app store).

iNaturalist is a crowd-sourced online application, so if you don’t know what your species is, no worries, someone else will! With your help we hope to get a snapshot of the seasonal variation from our surrounding hilltops down to the shores of Cayuga Lake. If you make observations in our region using iNaturalist during the 24-hour period starting at 10 am on January 30, your observations will automatically be added to this BioBlitz. All ages, all experience, all locations are welcome – please join us!
