Photuris
Fireflies
Fireflies, or lightning bugs, are in the Photuris genus. They are 1/2" long, and have a black-brown body with orange to yellow markings.
Males will fly at night, flashing to females.
They live in forests and fields.
Fireflies will lay their eggs on the ground, and larvae will hibernate. They pupate before emerging the following summer.
