Identifying Features

Smooth brome grass has long, blade-like and flat leaves.

Habitat & Range

Brome grass is found in fields and along trail-sides. There are multiple sub-species, some of which are native to North America and some that are native to Europe and Asia.

The non-native grass, Bromus inermis inermis, was introduced intentionally as a forage crop and has become invasive in natural spaces.

Life Cycle

This common perennial grass blooms in May through June, and its flowers are branched, 1" spikes.
