Identifying Features
The deer fly is 1/2" long, black with golden stripes, and has black patches on its wings. They have large eyes patterned with gold or green, and has spike-like antennae.
Habitat & Range
These flies live in forests and fields near water. Their range reaches from the Eastern US and into the central US.
Behavior
Females will feed on animal blood, males on nectar.
