Conservation Status
Identifying Features
True katydids are 2" long and green in color. They have long antnnae, oval wings, and a triangular body. Males have a brown base at the forewings.
Habitat & Range
True katydids live in forests on trees throughout the Eastern and Midwestern US.
Behavior
Starting in July, they will make a noise of 2 or 3 raspy harsh pulses, often in chorus fro trees at night.
Life Cycle
The eggs of this species overwinter in the bark of twigs, and will emerge in the spring.
