Identifying Features

Bladdernut is a small tree to shrub with gray-green bark with white streaks.

The leaves are opposite and compound, football-shaped, and fine-toothed. They typically have 3 leaflets.

Habitat & Range

Bladdernuts are found in the eastern half of the United States and Canda. They live in moist soils and shady areas.

Life Cycle

The fruit of this tree are 1-2" wide papery hanging “bladders.”
