Conservation Status

Identifying Features

The trout lily has a single bright yellow flower, with six-curled petals that are often brown on the backside. The flower bloom on a single stalk with broad, spotted leaves that grow at the base of the stalk.

Habitat & Range

Trout lily can be found in the woods and are very common and widespread (particularly in eastern North America)

Behavior

Trout lily tend to bloom in areas of unobstructed access to the sunlight. At night, the flower will close its petals.

Life Cycle

Trout lily bloom near the early spring around the months of April-May. They grow in large colonies that often cover huge areas of the forest floor.
