Conservation Status

Identifying Features

Common greenshield is typically between 1-4" wide and pale green in color. The underside is black. It has rounded spreading lobes in rosettes and has a wrinkly appearance.

Habitat & Range

This lichen is found throughout much of the US and Mexico as well as in Europe, parts of Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, North Korea, and South Korea.

It’s commonly found on branches and trunks of trees.

Life Cycle

This lichen is photosynthetic.
